HISTORY
The current town of Ag. Konstantinos, is built in the place where was found at the ancient times the Dafnountas, last western city of country of Opountion Lokron. The city was protected from long walls - ruins of that are saved in the place "Isomata" - and was the most important harbour of region. In the period of Ottoman domination they began to be created round the ruins of ancient city various settlements. More important than this settlements was: the Vorlovou, the Eulogias and the Neochoriou.
In 1894, after the big earthquakes that affected the region, Ag. Konstantinos was destroyed and a lot of houses were sunk in the sea. In the frames of reconstruction that followed, became then a amazing layout of the city that organized for spaces of green and rows of trees in all the length of central coastal area.
From 1960 that was manufactured the national road Athens of - Thessalonica, Ag. Konstantinos was evolved in one of the richest large villages of Greece. From then, thousands tourists visits the Ag. Konstantinos at the summer period. The graphic square of Ag. Nikolaou with the outdoor theatre and age-old plane, aquatic region of "Vromolimnis", the old church of Ag. Konstantinos with Byzantine mosaics, the Ag. Taxiarchis of Agnantis and the resort of Logou (for swimming and fishing) constitute mainer sightseeing this region.
Agios Constantinos Village
Thanks to the scenic environment, the lush vegetation, the lovely beaches and the sufficient tourist facilities it offers, Aghios Constantinos attracts many visitors. The visitors will find several alternatives for accommodation, both within the village and in the area around. The traditional restaurants and the scenic taverns at the seafront offer nice local dishes and Greek cooking.
The visitors of the place will enjoy swimming at the beach of the settlement, as well as at the nearby beaches of Kampos, Tsampou and Petalides, all of them with crystal clear nice sea.
Apart from the two settlements of the village, which are pretty scenic, don’t miss to visit the ravine of Aidona, a place of breathtaking beauty; you will walk along the ravine, within a fascinating natural environment and you will have the chance to fancy that you are listening, or even listen to the sweet trilling of the night gales, after which the place have been named.
Once in the village, you may also see the churches of Panaghia, dedicated to Virgin Mary and the church of Aghios Constantinos. If you feel like wandering around, you may visit the nearby scenic small village of Ambelos. The village is arranged on a hillside and offers an excellent view. Also, it is worth seeing the nice stone fountain, with the cool water.
Three local religious feasts (“panighyri”) take place in the village: on the 21st of May in honor of Aghios Constantinos, on the feast of Aghia Triada (the Holy Trinity) and on the 15th of August in honor of the Assumption of Virgin Mary.
In case of any problems a local Medical Center and a Police Station are available in the village.
Access to Aghios Constantinos is very easy by public buses, running regularly, and by rented or private cars and motorbikes. The small port of the settlement is available for mooring of small boats and yachts.
